  Spaces blog it and comments

Having signed in to your MSN Messenger or Hotmail account, you can visit other peoples' Spaces and make use of the Blog It link to add whatever content that interests you to your own space.

For example, webDotWiz has just come across a post on the MSN Space of one of Microsoft's program managers responsible for development of the new Hotmail. To add this item to the webDotWiz Space, a click on the Blog It link underneath the author's post immediately opens a new blog page at webDotWiz's Space with the title filled in and the original content also loaded into the blog under a Quote section so readers know the source. webDotWiz can then add his own comments (he's signed up for the trial of the new Hotmail and may have something to say about how it's going).

The other side of the coin is to leave a comment on another person's Space (e.g. on one of the many spaces by locals). Click on the Comment link and a text box will open so you can type in your thoughts. As well, because you're logged in with Messenger or Hotmail account, a link back to your space is added so the owner of the space and others who leave comments know about your space. This is how you can promote your own Space.

  Around the blogosphere

We all realise it's impossible to visit every site on the web to check for the latest piece of news or information so that's why webDotWiz suggests a site such as Start.com on which you can add your favourite info services. When an item of interest pops up, you can read a preview and then click your way to the full story.

The Program Manager for MSN Messenger on her space I'm Just the Messenger announced that MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger will be joining forces so that friends can instantly message each other no matter which IM client they use.

Searching the web for information on all sorts of topics can be a time-consuming and frustrating affair. As an experiment, webDotWiz searched for himself on MSN Search, Yahoo! and Google. MSN Search gave nine results with the option to list more (another 71) and the only one to list his Space, Yahoo! gave 1,960 results, and Google 2,010. Mixed in with results for this column are pages belonging to webDotWiz Train Simulator.

One aspect of searching relates to how long we have to wait before a news or information item is found by search engines. Robert Scoble has talked about this topic and has some thoughts on the matter and points out more development is required to how the search engines go about their work. As well, searches through all the blogs now on the Net have to become more efficient.
