Waranga Memorial Hospital Relay for Life

The Waranga Memorial Hospital and District Nursing Service staff have entered a team in Cancer Victoria's Relay for Life in Shepparton on October 22 and 23. The team is aiming to raise at least $100 per team member through fund-raising events and donations. The first fundraising event is a movie night at Echuca on Wednesday August 10 to watch Monster in Law and there will be a Trivia Night on Friday August 26.

  Style your space

Having set up your free MSN Space, it's time to set a theme to your liking, arrange the layout from a variety of choices, and move the content modules around to suit your needs.

Before we begin making changes, note the Preview My Space link over towards the top right. Clicking this link brings up your space as others see it. Once you're viewing your space as your visitors experience it, the link changes to Edit Your Space. So it's important to remember which mode you're in. Because you're the owner of the space, you alone can make changes to the theme and layout but you must be in edit mode.

So you're in edit mode and over to the right below the Preview My Space link are the Customise and Settings buttons. Firstly let's explore what settings are available.

When you signed up, you gave your space a title and here you can refine your site's theme by giving it a tagline (it will appear in smaller text under your space's title on the opening page). While here check you're using the time zone appropriate to your geographic location. Also note that Syndication is turned on - more about this feature at a later time but in short those Net users with an RSS reader can be informed whenever you update your space.

Under blog settings check you've allowed comments to be posted by your visitors. Permissions can have three levels. If you're at first a bit shy about your space, only allow your Messenger contacts to view your blogs and photos but be daring and allow anybody on the Net.

Email publishing is an interesting one. If your mobile phone is email enabled, you can update your blog and photo albums from the phone. Otherwise it might suit you in certain circumstances to use your email to update your site - try it, it does work!

Make use of Storage to check how much space you're using. Remember that text in your blogs is not counted and your allowable 30Mb is only used by any photos you include in a blog and albums. Note that 30Mb is very generous and much more than your ISP allows for a personal web space. You can use this page to delete any photos to make space for new ones. Remember to look down at the bottom of the page to check if you need to save any changes.

When you click the Customise button, you're able to set a theme, decide which content modules to have on your pages and change the layout. As well, when in Customize-mode you're able to move the various content modules around to suit your needs. Simply place your mouse over the module's heading and the mouse pointer changes to a four-headed arrow - now hold down the left button and move the module to its new position.

There are about sixty different themes from which to choose, some being simple colour schemes, others including a background image. Clicking the Modules button will give a drop down list of the modules you want to keep or remove.

By default each space has a narrow left column, a wide centre column and a narrow right-hand column. Use the Layout option to decide which best suits for your purpose. For example, if your photo albums are to be the centrepiece, use a two-column layout and move the album module to the top left and arrange other modules accordingly.

Experiment to get your space looking the way you want it and take advantage of it to share photos with family and friends and keep everybody up to date with your interests, hobbies, travels, ideas and projects.

  Spaces by the locals

This week's list of sites includes a number of spaces created by locals in the readership area of the Waranga News. Browse their sites and add a comment to their blog to tell them you visited.
