Windows Live services and desktop applications consist of:
- a group of free desktop programs - Live Mail, Live Messenger, Live Movie Maker, Live Photo Gallery, Live Sync, Live Writer and Live Family Safety - that you download and install, and
- a group of free online internet web services such as Live Calendar, Live Hotmail, Live Office (Office web apps), Live Photos, Live Skydrive, Live Spaces.
The group of programs you download and install are grouped together as Windows Live Essentials and the online services are grouped as Windows Live Internet Services.

Windows Live Essentials
Here's the list of programs that make up Live Essentials (links are to pages here at webDotWiz Online where you'll find links to more information about each Live Essentials application):

On May 12 2010 all the programs in Windows Live Essentials were updated for all versions of Windows (Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7). This version of Live Essentials will be the last update for Windows XP users.
The Wave 4 version - also now referred to as Windows Live Essentials 2011 - became available in late June as a trial version. Another trial version is rumoured in the week beginning August 16.

The online Windows Live services such as Live Hotmail are called Windows Live Internet Services to distinguish them from the Windows Live Essentials programs which run on the desktop. You can find more information about the Windows Live Essentials applications on this page here at webDotWiz Online.
Hotmail and the Office Web Apps will begin the rollout of the new version - titled Wave 4 - of the Live web services in the middle of June.
